🎶 New Release on Crosstown Records: Whispering Paper by Dorothy Bird
We’re proud to share the latest release on Crosstown Records — the stunning new album Whispering Paper by Berlin-Liverpool art-pop songwriter Dorothy Bird.
Following the acclaim of her 2022 debut Belonging, Whispering Paper marks Dorothy’s most personal and profound work yet. Released on May 3rd, 2025, the album is available on limited edition 12” black vinyl and across all major digital platforms.
A Deeply Personal Soundtrack to Healing
Written in the wake of personal loss, Whispering Paper is a graceful exploration of grief, connection, and emotional resilience. From the haunting beauty of “You Were,” written for her late sister, to the dreamlike textures of “Meteorites” and the stirring urgency of “Ride the Storm,” the album balances fragility with strength, intimacy with sonic ambition.
Dorothy explains:
“With Whispering Paper, I’m searching for an evocative and powerful connection. It opens up more deeply and directly than anything I’ve created before.”
The title track — and the album’s name — is drawn from a lyric in “Meteorites”:
“Telling whispering paper things that I love.”
Crafted at Crosstown Studios, Liverpool
Whispering Paper was co-produced and recorded right here at Crosstown Studios, where Dorothy worked once again with long-time collaborator Jon Lawton. The album features a talented roster of Liverpool-based musicians, including Amy Chalmers (violin), Ryan Mallows (drums), Matt Lawton (bass), and Miceál Sammon (trombone/euphonium), among others.
The result is a lush, layered soundscape that blends ethereal synths, atmospheric piano, delicate strings, and experimental textures — with Dorothy’s unmistakable voice at its centre.

A Rising Voice in Art-Pop
Dorothy Bird continues to gain support from BBC Introducing, Tom Robinson (BBC 6 Music), and tastemakers in both the UK and Germany. Her recent performance at Liverpool’s Yoko Ono Lennon Tung Auditorium further cemented her growing reputation as one of the most compelling voices in modern art-pop.
With comparisons to Portishead, Kate Bush, and Thom Yorke, Dorothy’s sound is uniquely her own: meditative, melodic, and emotionally raw.
